The three Brontë sisters were among the most influential feminist authors of their era. Living at a time when it was considered extremely outrageous for women to indulge in writing fiction, they used pen names to hide their true identity in order to publish their works. All three would become well-celebrated and influential authors during their time. Their poetry and novels are today English literature standards.

In total, the collection comprises the following four works
Jane Eyre (1847) by Charlotte Brontë
Shirley (1849) by Charlotte Brontë
Villette (1853) by Charlotte Brontë
The Professor (1857, posthumously) by Charlotte Brontë
Wuthering Heights (1847) by Emily Brontë
Agnes Grey (1847) by Anne Brontë
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (1848) by Anne Brontë

This edition also includes a foreword and editor’s notes about each of the books.

This edition was NOT merely scanned from an ink-and-paper book, like many e-books are. All e-books offered by Di Lernia Publishers are hand-edited and checked for spelling and punctuation errors.

JUSTICE FOR ANNE BRONTE. All the Bronte sisters deserve respect but Anne has unfairly been forgotten by history. She was the most political of the Bronte sisters and her work interogates the toxicity of Victorian masculinity and her novels were the most popular at the time and were the talk of London as she brought abusive relationships and the lack of resources for women to the forefront of her novels. Unfortunately, Charlotte thought her controversial novels inappropriate and after Anne died refused to let them be published and Anne fell into obscurity compared to her sisters. Having all the novels together is definitively a wonderful way to contrast and compare the sisters.

Such a detailed account of the Bronte's lives. Just what I wanted to know. Their genius is amazing, but their lives heartbreakingly short. What more brilliant literature could they have left us, if only they had not died so young? Their insight into human behavior is quite remarkable, given how sheltered they were. I've read a lot of their works, and have loved every one. Give yourself a treat and read this one.
This revisit to some of my teenage reading was a little disappointing. I'd forgotten Charlotte's propensity for writing some dialog in French (since I don't speak French I found myself reading along and thinking "well, I wonder what that was all about" all too frequently). I also grew tired of her unflattering descriptions of the French characters. And in Emily's "Wuthering Heights" I could not bring myself to care what happened to these disagreeable people. I did find the biography of Charlotte very interesting, and the stories as a whole do give insight into this period of history, but I would no longer choose these books for recreational reading.
This is a very beautiful book. It is an oversized volume, and has lovely illustrations. Best as a reference or as a collection piece for Bronte followers vs a first time reader, simply because of it's large size and weight. But it is a fine addition to any home library.
I skipped the Brontes when my peers were enthralled with their tales. And so, am as delighted, as they then were, to enjoy dive in 40 years later to confirm that great literature stands the test of time and the ages. Thank-you for making this book so affordable. I do hope many will, therefore partake of it and keep the tales of the Brontes alive for generations to come!
"Jane Eyre" is an amazing classic of what real love truly is. Charlotte Bronte was a writer with a message for the ages. No matter your station in life, good things can happen and will through patience, hard work and a forging heart. True love overlooks the scars and looks upon the heart and soul of the one you love.
Emily wrote the dark and disturbing "Wuthering Heights." It's a tale of rejection, jealousy and passion. There's a manipulating and torn lover in the character of Catherine and a inner rage and a deep, internal love, that can never be satisfied. For Catherine is what drives Heathcliff to an obsessive insanity and it does not end well. Charlotte edited the book after Emily passed away.Once thought a vile book in the Victorian age, is still studied in schools and universities all over the world.
I would give the first book of this series, Jane ?, 6 stars. I would give the second book ? 5 1/2 stars, and the third book I am currently reading, "Shirley" going on 5 stars. The biography of letters from Charlotte Bronte during portions of her life, 5 stars. CB was probably the most famous of English women authors. She died at 39. One of her sisters wrote another famous book, Wuthering Heights, the only book she ever wrote and published. I forget the details, e.g., titles, of these books soon after I read them. Jane ? is worth reading twice. The writing quality of the women, and men, of the19th century, I believe is something not seen since then. It is a lost art.
For anyone who wishes to get the complete Bronte picture Works, biographical picture, and biographical picture from their contemporaries, this is the book to get. It is not always easy to access the works of the Brontes outside of the novels that everyone knows. This book gives a glimpse of the Gondal poems and sagas that started the creative process toward the works we are familiar with. It also gives a glimpse of the personalities of the Brontes themselves as truly individual people, which sometimes gets lost as people speak of the 'Brontes' or 'Bronte Sisters'. Each sister was very different personality-wise and stands in their own right. Charlotte was so different from Anne and Emily very different from either of her sisters.
JUSTICE FOR ANNE BRONTE. All the Bronte sisters deserve respect but Anne has unfairly been forgotten by history.
